A couple of weeks ago I had the absolute pleasure of attending the Sally Beauty Executive Summit. Not only was the event one of the best I’ve ever attended, but I also had the opportunity to test out new hair care and cosmetic products.
Among the hoard of cosmetic brands, Femme Couture was the first to catch my attention. The products that I’ve used thus far has performed like high-end makeup but at drug store prices.
It all started off with their “Get Flawless 8-in-1 Foundation” and admittedly was an accidental discovery. I remember spotting the foundation on the floor of my new apartment among other scattered, miscellaneous items. I am not very experimental when it comes to foundation and stick with the tried and true. My oily, acne prone skin isn’t the easiest to please, and it certainly knows the in’s and out’s of what it wants. But in the midst of packing and unpacking, I had somehow left my old' reliable Bare Minerals original foundation behind. So without hesitation, I unwrapped my “Get Flawless 8-in-1 Foundation, ” and we immediately clicked.
I was stunned by the coverage, first and foremost. I would describe it to be a gel-like texture, on the thicker end, long lasting, and a matte finish. It is very comparable to one of my favorite matte foundations: “Makeup Forever Matte Velvet.” And although I’d describe it to be on the thicker side, It doesn’t give you that heavy makeup feeling. Lastly, I have oily acne prone skin, so I strictly stick with oil-free, matte foundations or mineral makeup. Any hydrating or radiant foundations would just make me look like a shiny disco ball ( no offense to shiny disco balls XP). I am currently on the brink of emptying my bottle and haven't experienced any breakouts.
Femme Couture "Get Me through the Holidays" 5 piece lipstick gift set
While this product is not yet in stores, I’d highly recommend this as a gift. I am extremely impressed by the quality of these lipsticks. They are well pigmented, creamy, and long lasting. Any lipstick lover would be thrilled with these lipsticks as they are very comparable to higher end lipsticks.
As a fan of waterproof and long-lasting liquid liners and mascara’s, I typically reply on oil-based makeup removers. Simply because so far, they were the only makeup removers capable of quickly removing my stubborn eye makeup. So honestly, I did not have a lot of expectations for this product. But I stand corrected. Not only did it remove my eyeliner and mascara with ease, but it also did not leave any oily residue that some oil based removers may do. I like to take a cotton pad and lightly hold it over my lids for a couple of seconds then rubbing it gently. Makeup naturally melts off with ease.
Not “fake lash” level for my sparse Asian lashes but I suspect no mascara in the world can do that for me. I will say this, however: pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty close. After using this mascara, I can’t see why I would ever need to buy another (I’ll still use my falsies, however). I mean it’s thickening, never clumps, and lengthens lashes extremely well. It’s pretty much everything I’m looking for in a mascara, so, for now, there is no need to stray.
The Build-A-Lash mascara is perfect for those who want natural, clump-free lashes. While it is build-able, you don’t ever reach that “fake lash” look achieved with the “Fake Lash Midnight Black Mascara.” But that might be why you’d want to purchase this mascara. It gives you that “I have naturally long lashes look” which is perfect for that “no makeup, makeup” look.
This thing shoots out like a garden hose LOL. Ok, a little exaggeration but more of a straight shooter rather than a fine mist. However, it doesn’t smear or mess up your makeup in any way.
I typically hold it at least 12 inches away from my face and spray in a quick X motion across my face. I notice prolonging of makeup when I use this setting spray.
The felt-tipped applicator is one of the best I’ve ever used as it is incredibly easy to control.
The product also dries quickly and flawlessly. However, I am prone to watery eyes and oily lids, and this wasn’t the best long lasting liner option for me. If you’re on a tight budget, this is an amazing liner, but I’d personally stick with my trusty Stila waterproof stay all day waterproof liquid liner.
I have a fascination for anything bb cream or foundation related makeup. So when I saw that Femme Couture carried a BB foundation, I had to try it! I am in love with the application process; the foundation is light weight, smooth, blends into skin seamlessly. However, I probably would not recommend this foundation for those with oily skin as it doesn’t absorb oil. It’s more of a hydrating finish rather than a matte one. But for those with normal to dry skin, I think you’d enjoy this foundation.
